Sharpness

When I bring in a hi rez file into this program and manipulate it seems to become pixelated! I save it as a "large" j-peg am I doing something wrong or is this a inherited problem with the program??

Hi Joecool,

One common mistake people make is to lower the jpeg quality right down to a very low setting. Make sure the quality is set to high when you save. Does that fix it?

No I have saved them at high, at the ""original size"" should I change ""original size"" to something different??

Hi Joe,

The software shouldn't be saving out pixelated images if you have jpg quality set to 100. Original size is the correct setting. Does saving out as a tiff fix it? Could you open a support ticket so our support staff can try and help you?

Joe; just a thought; is it a high res jpg you are working on? If yes dependant on how far you work it in SPE it will degrade eventually. If you only want to work a part of the image why not mask off the areas?

Make sure you have your jpeg quality set to 100, that's been the problem in 99% of cases I've seen. Adding lots of effects won't affect the sharpness (unless they are specifically designed to do that).

ill check the jpeg but seems to only be when I use the sharpen tool.

also when I print off an A3 poster photo which isn't all that big its still not as sharp as id like it to be

Is the original sharp enough? If so, which effects do you think are affecting sharpness? There is a small difference between 100% jpg and a tiff file, where the tiff file will be slightly better, but for most situations I personally go for jpg as the files sizes are much smaller.
