f5 doesnt work

How come keyboard short cuts dont work for me? When I follow how to step by step tutorials it says to view before photo to compare hit f5 but nothing happens??????????

I never used the shortcut, but tried it after reading your question. F5 works for me, so thank you for asking , otherwise I'd be mousing over the thumbnail of the original image forever to see the original state of my image. 
I don't know why the F5 shortcut isn't working for you. Have you tried Googling for general information about function keys not working with your operating system or keyboard? Good luck!

the f5 button works for other software but not yours that is reason for the post

You need to hold down the f5 key. Is that it?
