Telephone Box

Postby Richard Briggs » Sun Jan 05, 2014 1:17 pm

I took this photo in 1977. It was a colour slide since digitised. The inspiration for taking the photo was the warm and inviting glow from the inside of the telephone box in this bitterly cold landscape. However, use of flash completely removed the comforting yellow glow. And so the picture has remained as an 'if only' ever since. Until now. Using SME I have recreated what actually inspired me to take the picture in the first place. Referring to the pictures below, here's what I did....

1 - Original photo with the 'warm glow' lost due to flash.
2 - Applied Golden Sunset and adjusted so the maximum yellow area covered the windows of the telephone box. Masked so that only the windows were affected.
3 - Applied a second Golden Sunset but this time adjusting to get a pool of yellow light on the snow. I then faded the light as distance from the telephone box increased using masking (airbrush at varying levels of opacity).
3 - Applied Romney bw to reduce the blueness of the snow.

oops I meant SPE. This is rather worrying as SME = Small Medium Enterprise (as in business). I thought I'd left all that jargon behind 3 years ago when I retired :(
