Thanks for all your help but,#my update galleries button is not highlighted so it won't work.
It is pale grey in comparison to the white on the other options

You can't use update galleries if you are in the middle of editing a picture. Close your picture then pick that option.

yes this would be a wonderful feature and would make sense to add, that way a user can use their own photos as backgrounds. im asking please, and also more stuff like the "fence", such as picket fence, broken window, stained glass, dirty window, chicken wire, barbed wire, etc....

and how adjustable rain direction, falling snow, fog patterns, and how about cigarette smoke patterns with placement choice and coloring capability??? hey the more the better, make yourself the best selling program on earth! just saying.......................W

We are currently working on a tool that lets you add in any pictures infront or behind your picture. Once this tool is finished it will be easy for anyone to create new effects that change the background or add something in the foreground and publish it for anyone to use.

Microsoft Digital Image Pro, Picture It, allows that. All the photos are your own - at least they don't provide any - that is up to you. You cut out what you want from one and layer it over another. One may combine parts of many photos and modify each before combining/merging. Can have 7 layers I think. MS no longer supports it since Windows Live came out. It has cool things too but I miss the filter effects, layering and some editing features like clone brushes, dodge and burn, and tint brushes.

what is the purpose of the galaxy in the effects gallery? Can I replace an entire background, if so, how?

You will be able to have any number of layers behind or infront of your photo when the new composite tool is released, which should be very soon now.

Love the "Replace background with beach"by Tony.... would be nice to have others like "brick walls" from different angles, grafitti walls, railroad tracks, etc....
