I've a project I would like to use this effect on but alas it is one that does not provide a masking option ... unless I am missing the wood for the trees. Actually another is the old postacrd effect; again it does not offer a masking facility. Or again am I missing it?

It's possible that it doesn't allow masking because it changes the size of the image (i.e. if you unmasked it wouldn't line up with the original).
