Removing some color on gallery effect

Have a landscape photo where I used a sunset color gallery effect. Would like to be able to remove some of the color effects on parts of the image so it doesn't look so like just an overlay but part of the original picture. Like the quick edit with gallery effects but would like more control to edit when needed.

When you apply the effect you will invariably (not always) be presented with a button on the left 'OK, Mask Area'. CLick on that and then you can paint out the areas of the effect you don't want such as maybe on the water of your photo or the land.
