Erase tool

Why can't you make a tool that erases part of the mask you apply. if I want to erase part of it I don't seem to have that ability...please help

If I understand you correctly, you've painted some mask via the Select Area tool, but you want to be able to unmask part of that area. To do that, use the Erase From Selection button in the top right.

Or perhaps you were talking about the Erase tool, and you've erased an areas, but accidentally erased too much and want to restore some of the area to the original. In which case use the Restore brush in the top right.
