I don't understand the messages regarding BIT that pop up

In saving some work I have started to get some messages regarding could not save so and so version saved as 8 bit instead. Something along these lines. Exactly what does this mean? Will my saved pictures be of less quality than those saved in higher number bits?

Hi Phoebe,

Don't worry about that message. It's just saying that the original file you used has been moved, so it's using the version of the picture stored in the .pe file.
