erasing backgrounds

I am trying to create an image with no background. I use the eraser to erase the background and then I do not know how to save that back
black or white background and it reverts back to the original. Please help. I have tried several times with the same results.

Hi Marsteton,
You need to select the 'Select Area' tool, than choose for 'Background' and select the background with the brushes, after that, choose a background effect you wish.

Edit: You can use the search option to search for 'White background' as example..
