How can i change the default of smart photo editor to landscape (rather than portrait) if doing a composite?

Since I don't use the composite function of SPE, I can't give you an answer to your question based on experience. Indeed, I admit that I don't understand the question. Can you explain what you mean by "the default" of SPE being portrait mode? Anything I do in SPE involves opening an image which is is already in portrait or landscape mode. I can select an underlay or an overlay for that image, but I don't understand where you run into the issue you describe.
Can you explain in more detail what you are doing and how the problem occurs?
