What does the message "Gallery no longer optimized for your effect" mean?

I think you mean "Gallery no longer optimized for your image". When you turn off "This Image", it means SPE can no longer look at your picture and choose effects that it thinks are particularly suited to it. Click on "This Image" again to turn the feature back on. You'll find it can use more interesting effects when it can see your picture because it can ensure the more interesting ones look good (and not all interesting effects look good on all pictures).
