sometimes the sky is white
Sometimes the sky is white
and I would like to make it blue
or pinkish blue
but it is not just one large area
it has tree branches
and small open areas
and I don't know how to replace the white area with a color or an underlay...
I do have photoshop elements 15
but I am having a lot of fun with smart photo editor
and wondered if I can do anything with a white sky while I am in here.
Thanks!

Re: sometimes the sky is white
Like you I use Photoshop Elements 15. But find SPE far superior for 'effects' and arty modifications. So I use PSE for all post processing and, for some shots that need that extra 'something', I use SPE. To your question...
So, you have a photo with a white/grey/boring sky and you want to replace it.
Open the image in SPE.
Press Select Area in top right hand corner.
Select the Sky option from the window that pops up.
You'll see a pink area around your mouse pointer. Hold down the mouse key and paint over the sky area. For intricate parts such as branches, leaves etc point the mouse to, say, a white part of the sky. Hold down SHIFT and theb paint. It will only include areas that are the colour where you pressed Shift.
Once happy with the selection, press confirm on left and you will be presented with numerous versions of your image with a new sky. Select whichever you like.

Re: sometimes the sky is white
To discover this tip was a revelation as I have spent hours editing around trees, however when I tried this snazzy new idea my joy was short lived as Smart editor kept crashing. Am using a Mac in case this is relevant.... Any ideas?
