Removing objects / people from a picture

Can anyone explain in simple terms how you replace a person on a beach with 3 different textures - sand, surf and a wall. Can't quite follow the tutorial on this subject, especially spitting the image box area into 3. Thanks in advance.

The area split tool is used when you want to use more than smaller area of the picture to fill out a larger area. To use it, slice through the blue area by dragging from outside the blue area, then through the blue area and out on another side. If it works, you'll see the area split in two.
