Selected S.P.E. distorts when saved to Photoshop CC

When I select the following Smart Photo Editor image from the Effects Gallery, it appears great. The size of my selection is a long rectangle but short in height. After selecting 'OK' and then 'Saving' it to Photoshop CC, I end up with a distorted image. How can I fix this problem?

I think what's going on is that photoshop filters are not allowed to change the image size. So for some of the SPE effects which add borders, Photoshop will distort the result. I'm afraid the only way around this is to use SPE as a standalone editor, save the result then load it into Photoshop.
