I am new to SPE but very impressed at the creativity it gives to the user.

One tool I would love to see is something like the Magic Wand in PS - something to allow us to choose a color for masking; this would be really useful for choosing just a sky area for instance - even better if we could choose contiguous or not too

now that you have composite, is there a way to add objects in front of a picture like a ball or add longer or shorter hair? How can we add effects from composite if someone is sitting? If my hands doesn't have long nails in a picture, is there a effect to enhance and add nails etc.?

Yes, to add an object infront:

Press add overlay in compositing mode
Choose the picture containing the object you want to add
Use the brushes to remove the parts of the picture you don't want
Finally, place the object where you want it using the Move Rotate and Scale option

I would love to be able to return to the short-list of effects. I have just been editing an image and made a short-list of favorites - about 9 effects - so I saved the first on the shortlist but when I tried to return to the shortlist, they were all gone and it appeared I have to start again

All effects that were in your shortlist get added to the favourite effects list after you apply.
