Controlling the mask function

Once I've set my picture up and I click on "mask effects" I'd like to be able to control the amount I add or take away from the picture. Once I switch to mask mode the slider is no longer there to control the amount of the effect I use like I can with the master fade slider. Sometimes I want to mask parts of the picture from a harsh effect but still retain a small amount of the effect in the areas I mask. Would it be possible to have a feature like that?

Instead of using the edge finding smart brush, try the Airbrush as it has an opacity control. I think that's what you are looking for. Let me know if not.
