Compart - Fortress Tower

Postby Arwin » Mon Jul 01, 2013 11:40 am

Hi all,

Im a freetime (Dutch) photographer and love to enhanced my photo's, creatively or natural.
I use different kinds of photo editing software and started to use SPE about a month ago and I really love it!

I wil post some of my other photo's aswell in the future, with some explanation on how I did the enhancement, maybe it wil help someone or its just inspiring!

The photo 'Fortress Tower':
I started by using the Erase-tool to remove the person in the left corner, the small tree branch, flags and the lantern in the center.
After this the light-colored wall was a bit smudgy, to resolve this, I opened the photo in an standard paintingtool (in my case PhotoFiltre Studio X) and used the color picker tool to get the right color of the wall, erased the whole photo (ctrl-a, delete) to fill this area up with the color.
Now I used this photo, of just one color, as under-layer for the photo I edited earlier in SPE and used the brush 'add to selection' to repaint the light-colored wall (except for the shadows of course).

Than I choosed to use two filters, because I liked the sky-part of the other more, I did the following.
First I saved the session, than I used the filter 'Improve sunsets by Tony' (Which I like the sky from), saved this photo as tiff(or jpg if you like), reopened the saved session (discard any changes) and applied the filter 'Hdr by superdave', and added the saved photo (with the other filter) as under-layer and used the brush 'add to selection' again, this time in the sky area, to add the sky to the photo I liked the most.

Hope this was helpful in the 'how to's' or just inspiring ;)

If you have any suggestions or questions, just feel free to ask :)

Hi Arwin,

Nice job of enhancing and removing some objects. Also, thanks for your explanations on how you did everything; very helpful for everybody.

Haven't been to your part of the world--I would bring back many pictures and work on them for years. :D

Wow, that second image is a great improvement on the first. Not to say that the first one was bad, but you can surly tell the difference when side by side.
