blur backround

Postby sexydivinediva » Wed Aug 07, 2013 9:16 pm

How do I blur the background if I had three objects (one behind the other), how can I have the first object in focus, the second slight blur, and the third object, blurred

when creating an effect with composite, how do you get into the tiny crevices to highlight without the highlights bleeding into the actual picture especially if you are trying to change the background

Hi,

To blur different objects different amounts, can be done, but you'll need to follow these instructions carefully, as it's a bit different from how you might normally work:

To mark the object in focus, just select it normally using the brushes (don't go into the gallery yet though)
To mark other objects as slightly in focus, choose the "Airbrush" tool from the left and lower the opacity (you'll only need to lower it a bit). The more you lower it, the less in focus it will appear.
To select another object, drag the mouse all over the object, in one stroke without releasing the mouse button. It's important to do it in one go otherwise you will gradually build up opacity and the object will be more in focus in any place your strokes overlap. You should see the objects you select like this appear in the top right "Select Area" tab in grey as opposed to white.
Once you've selected your objects, press "Confirm Selection And Browse Effects", then Detail > Depth Of Field and choose an effect you like. Depth of field on object is probably a good one.

To select tiny crevices in objects, you need to use the Shift key on your keyboard. Move your mouse over a clear bit of background and hold down the shift key. You can then move your mouse over tiny crevices and it will use the place where you held shift to figure out which parts are background. Play with it a bit to get the hang of it.
