Collage help please!

Postby rgrisoli » Tue Sep 10, 2013 3:31 am

I bought this program mainly so I could compare "before" and "after" photos. Could anyone tell me if this is possible and if so could you give me some suggestions on how to do this? Thanks so much!

Hi Rick,

You can hover over the tabs in the upper right corner to see the original and the effects you applied (See image below)

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks Arwin,
What I want to do is put 2 different photos side by side and make them one jpeg. Is that possible?

Hi Rick,

Well it can be done in SPE, but I would suggest to use an another programma to do just that.

But in SPE you can go to 'File > New Montage'
Check the size of the photo's you want to join (easiest is when they are the same in size)

In the popup window,
Give the Montage Width (width photo1 + width photo2)
Give the Montage Height (Height of one of the photos)
Unselect the Add a Texture and Add a Border
Press OK

Underneath the word Composite (in the left upper corner) you see Overlays 'New', click on New and choose photo 1
Drag the photo in the upper left corner and resize it by click and drag the lower right corner of the photo.

Now click again on Overlays 'New' and do the same with the other photo, but now, of course, in the other corner.

Thats all, you can save it as session or as jpg as you wish.

Hope this will help.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your question and thanks to Arwin for answering it so well. As you may have suspected, the compositing tool in SPE can do a lot more than just place your photos side-by-side so feel free to experiment.

Thanks so much! Now I can get to work. The software is extremely powerful, and I am amazed at all it can do. It does help to have an advisor because I don't think I would have ever figured that out by myself.

Thanks again,

Rick G

For me, hovering over the image does nothing. I have to manually click on the little pic at the top and then the large pic will change to show the difference. This method of comparison is unsatisfactory. Is there another way to compare the before and after pics? Preferably larger side by sides. I read somewhere that clicking F5 would allow me to compare but all this does is the same thing. I'd like to have the two shots LARGER SIDE BY SIDE.

Thank you very much for the patience towards a newbie user.

Hi Moonbeam,

Unfortunately at the moment there is no side by side comparison of the before and after pictures. What I suggest you do, is save the result then load up the original and result in two different picture viewers (like windows photo preview) and put the windows side by side.

Hope that helps,

Tony
