Like button on the forum
Would there be an interest in a 'Like' button (Facebook or just a change of the 'Thank you' string of phpBB) ?
I personaly do like some kind of Like button, I find myself often in the situation that I do 'just like' for example a photo and like to express that with a 'Like' instead of a comment, its not that I dont want to comment, because I do when I like to say something about it, but sometimes its just sufficient to 'Like'
I can also turn it arround, because there are alot more views than people comment, but hey, it is possible that they like something I posted, but they dont like to comment, or dont have time and so on.. For me and I guess for other, its just 'fine' to know, the post, image, effect or comment is 'liked'
It can also been a new way of exposure, because a 'Like' can be transmited to Facebook for example: 'Arwin likes a post on the Smart Photo Editor forum'. Of course I do like some sort of yes/no before it is transmited, be cause it can happen you don't want it to be shared on Facebook.
Anyway, is it possible and is there any interest in?

Re: Like button on the forum
I am totally against a "like" button. The whole idea behind art is to encourage people to engage themselves with the image. And, as it has already been stated, what is it that is liked?
I would think that this forum is about learning and sharing. I learn nothing when some hits "like". This community is better served when dialog is exchanged. For me it is the why of something that leads to forward progress.
Just my opinion. Either way, I am thankful for SPE. The personal involvement of Tony and others is awesome. A very rare thing in the software world. You guys actually listen and care about your product.
Thanks,
Wess

Hi Arwin, Wess,
I can see both of your points of view, but perhaps there is a way for you to both have what you want. One situation where I think 'likes' are a good idea is when you want to get a lot of feedback on something (because it's easier to hit a button than compose a reply, especially if all you want to say is it's good). One option is if you want feedback on an image, you could post it as a poll. A few different options spring to mind: You could post several way of processing a photo and ask people which they thought was the best. Another idea is you could choose the poll options as 5 different star ratings if you wanted an absolute result. This way people who wanted a lot of feedback and wanted to make it easier for people to do so could leave a poll, but if you wanted a constructive dialog, you could ask for that instead.

Tony, Yeah good ideas. I hope I didn't come off too strong in my post. I was thinking after I wrote the comment, isn't that the way it usually is, that a like button would serve a purpose when used in a case where you agree with a comment.
