I'm not sure if it is a bug or not, but I had 1.0.6 and in the settings an option ticked to check for updates, but mine isn't working or checking, because I didn't receive any automatic warning, I did it by hand to find out today that we had the v1.2.

The auto notifier button should be operating in a few days (according to a Forum Post earlier this week).

That's right. Auto update happens a little while after the release is available.
