How to apply the same effects to multiple photos

I have 100+ headshots of our high school marching band that I want to apply the same effect to. Basically, I want to remove the current background (that is offwhite and has shadows) and replace it with a background that is bright white. Is there a way to do it manually on one photo, then automate the process for the remaining 99+?

I've included a sample of an original photo that I want to edit.

I don't think there is, SPE does allow batch processing but what you like to do requires a mask (marking the person/background on the photo) and on every photo there is a different person that requires a new mask.
What you can do, is see if there is an effect that works well on your photo, if there is any, just apply it to the photo and go to the menu File > Batch Apply Effect and select all the photos you want to have the effect on and hit 'open'.
SPE will save all the files with an suffix _pe, you will find them in the same folder as the originals.

You can also wait to see what Tony has to offer, but Im afraid there isn't a better option.

Hi,

There is a way that might be good enough for what you want. Update your galleries. I've uploaded an effect called "whiten pink background" (search for it in the gallery). Try playing with that to see if it does what you want. It just looks for the pink color background in your photo and paints white over it. It will also pick up the pink in the sash, but the end result looks ok on the picture you posted. Alternatively you can search for brighten. There are a number of effects there that might work well, like Auto brighten and Brightness.

You can batch any of these to all your photos. They might work ok on most of your photos, then you'll just have to manually do the ones it doesn't work on.

OMG. Works great. Thank you for not only suggesting a solution, but for actually creating one for me to use. I'll be sure to share my experience with others.

I've attached before and after shots for you to see how well it worked. The only other editing that must get done is to remove the shadows so that the background is uniformly white. Other than that, if time permits, I'd like to enhance the images by adjusting the exposure and brightening their teeth and eyes (all as needed).

Do you have any suggestions for me that I can use to batch these edits as well (especially removing the shadows)?

Hi Eric,

You might be able to get rid of the shadows by using a similar technique. If you apply the whiten pink background to a photo, then right click on the tab at the top and choose "Manual Edit", you can see how I did it in the Effect Editor. The effect editor needs a bit of playing round with to get used to, but we can do a simple tweak to try and get rid of the shadow. You'll see a node called Select by color, double click on it, then drag from the color swatch onto the shadow color. Then click on the Effect Output node, and you'll see the shadow color turned to white. It will also turn other things that color to white, so you'll have to decide how well that works. You could try playing with Area and Softness to see if you get a better result.

As for batching facial edits, our sister software Portrait Pro, will be releasing a new version 12 over the course of the next few weeks that can batch lots of facial edits (including teeth and eyes whitening), so watch that space, although you might need it sooner than that.
