Saving files

could someone please explain the 3 different types of file saving under the file menu ? Am i able to save something and work on it later ? I use the software for portraits. if i spend the time cutting someone out a person to put a background behind them, can i save the cut out image somehow to use with another background without re-cutting it out........thanks

Sure:

Save As Session > That's the one you want where you can load it back in again and keep working. Learn about selections and how to reuse them.

Save As Jpeg/Tiff/Png > To share pictures with other people who don't have SPE, you'll need to save it as one of these. Jpeg is the most common format as it makes nice small files.

Save > That just saves it without prompting in the most recent format you specified.

Save: Save your file as it is, this will quickly 'overwrite' your work and you keep the same name.
Save as Session: With a session you're save your project with all the effects and mask in it, so the next time you open up your session you're able to remove effects, add effects or (re)mask effects.
Save as Jpeg/Tiff/Png: With this option you can save your session as a file format that can read by other programs, like an other photo editing program, or when using your photos on the internet.

Jpeg: Most common and used format, you can use this for the internet or to let your photo print at a mall
Tiff: Much larger file in filesize (mb's) does has more image information in it than Jpeg and Png, professionals will prefer this over Jpeg, aslong there is no Raw or Dng of an image.
Png: Format that is most used in web design, it can keep transparency and such.

If you wanna re-use your mask (only in a session, you can't save your mask as a separate file) you need to hover over the gallery button, in the pop-up window you can see in the right bottom corner your mask(s), click on one of them to apply an effect on them.
