Re: Two exciting new silhouette series overlays + ADDITIONS
Can the color of the silhouette be changed? I've tried several things but to no avail.
Re: Two exciting new silhouette series overlays + ADDITIONS
Hi DBenterprises,
Andrew, if I may.., yes you can change the color
You need to go into the effect editor.
-add a "Filter node" behind the "Load Internet Image node".
-Change the filter type to "add".
-Choose any color you like in the Color Picker box (Double Click on the box).
Here is an image that illustrate the steps

Re: Two exciting new silhouette series overlays + ADDITIONS
Hi folks,
At this stage in the development of this type of effect, I had not concerned myself with changing the color of silhouettes, but it is certainly a good idea to make this possible.
Arwin thanks for creating a solution to adding color. I will play around tomorrow and see what I can do, but feel free (ANYONE, that is) to develop the effects and make improvements - that is what the forum is all about - sharing ideas and developing ideas together - tonight, however, I'm too tired!
Cheers,
Andrew

Indeed Andrew, thats indeed all SPE is about, it's great!
I've already a solution incase you don't want a transparent color overlay, needs just one extra node to the above solution and some tweaks
Here is what you need to do:
Select by color node (new)
-Add a "Select by color node" between the "(Add) Filter node" and the "Place and Merge node".
-In the Name box of this node fill in "Color" (as you can see in the example below)
-Choose for the same color you did in the filter node (in this example blue)
Thats all for the Select by color node, press ok.
Place And Merge node
-Change the Area field of the "Place And Merge node" to "Color" (It's the name you gave in the Select by color node)
-Change the "PlaceAndMerge type" of the "Place And Merge node" to "Normal" (Instead of Multiply)
The way I write it down, is for general purpose, not special for you Andrew, I know you know how the effect editor works But for sure take your benefit out of it!
Cheers,
Arwin

Re: Two exciting new silhouette series overlays + ADDITIONS
Arwin,
Thanks for all you help. I've taken your modifications and added a slider so that you can change the hue of the silhouette image without affecting the original image. I was actually going to bed as I'm really tired but all this discussion got my juices flowing. I've created a local file and tried it out successfully. Anyway, here is my additional node:
Shows what can be achieved through cooperation and joint creation.
Thanks for all the comments and help - now I think we have the fundamentals for excellent effects. I will create new versions of the previous effect series using the structure derived at together.
Here is my dropbox link to the 'Save Session' file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fg39cp58egmmc ... 0effect.pe
Kind regards,
Andrew

Very cool guys. I found by adding a bit of g. blur on the "window grids", it can be made to look more realistic, as you can give it a sort of depth of field perspective.

Re: Two exciting new silhouette series overlays + ADDITIONS
Hi DBenterprises,
Thanks for your idea of adding gaussian blur - I won't incorporate it into the full colored windows and grids set I'm currently working. To-date I've uploaded about 20 new 'full-colored' effects that do not adjust the background colors but give you the opportunity to alter the hue of each grid or window. The new set is called 'Colored window frames and grids' and when they go live simply type 'Colored window frames and grids' in the Effects Gallery search box and the set will be shown.
The rest should be uploaded today then I might work on the silhouette figures to allow for full color too.
Have a great day!

Well this works out great
I like the way we shared our creative thoughts and ideas and bring them together in the final effect!
Nice idea to share the session via Dropbox Andrew, did not thought about it
I've played with a blur in the silhouette effect aswell, but I wasn't that satisfied with it but the idea to have it implemented in the Window/Grid effect sound as a good idea indeed!
While using the blur on the silhouette effect I saw some surprising results other than I had in mind, will work it out more and maybe I will upload them eventually, when I'm satisfied

Re: Two exciting new silhouette series overlays + ADDITIONS
Cheers Arwin - looking forward to see how you use blur in the effects. At this stage, other than making more variety available, I'm not going to mess about with the different effect structures. Each of the different effect structures in this instance have a role to play (for example, I still like the ability to alter the hue of the original when just using the black silhouette, but as you pointed out that particular effect does not work perfectly when using masking techniques). I'm very pleased with the results of this joint effort.
I've now uploaded the full 'Colored window frames and grids' series numbered 001-024 and these should be live in the Effects Gallery in the next few days or so.
As I said before, to access this new series simply type 'Colored window frames and grids' in the Effects Gallery search box and the whole series will be shown.
I've developed new ideas using the same approach as we have developed here - once I've tested the ideas I have I'll post something in the forum.
Let me reiterate my congratulations on all the work you have done on your stage lighting effects - the latest ones are BRILLIANT!
Cheers,
Andrew
