Why did Rendering make a Black image?

Postby painted tulip » Thu Apr 10, 2014 6:53 am

My apologies if this question is here somewhere. Had issues tonight saving a file. Every save ended up as a black image. jpg, tiff, session...over and over....I had some time invested too! Sigh....Don't think that's happened before. I am not completely versed with everything this program can do, but I've certainly used it long enough that this has never happened before. There were several overlays, well like 4 and some other edits, but I wasn't even to point of having to "drag/scroll" my last edit over on top of the panel yet! That's caused some hang ups before, I save sooner now...Why did it render black??? oh yeah! it was saving the Tif file as 154KB (3245 x 4056pixels). That would normally be in the 90MB range....

Hi,

If you could open a support ticket and send a session file to our support team, they could see if they can reproduce your problem. In the meantime, it might be a memory issue, are you using the 64bit build of SPE?

Tony, How do you send a session file?!

Tony, as far as I can tell I'm using the 64bit, where do I check to be sure it is?! Checked the properties box on the program and it's size is 62.4MB....that's not what I thought that meant exactly but...that doesn't mean anything!! I did find system info under the help box in the program and will copy that for a ticket. I see these numbers but I cannot relate to what they mean exactly...I mean, do I still have a good amount of memory or not? I do have several editing programs downloaded, Elements11, LR4, full Topaz suite, Perfect Photo Suite 8 and SPE already on my computer. Alot of times I will have LR4 open, picasa, and SPE at the same time, and internet (with several pages) when I'm editing stuff. Which so far has not affected anything. So far I have avoided the big Photoshop and I'm not real keen on a subscription service, particularly what it may be monthly after the first year. Anyway, here's that info from the spe help system info:

Go to "Help">"About">"System Info"

It appears you are not using the latest version or the 64bit edition

The top lines should say:

Application: Smart Photo Editor (64-bit)
Product code: PE-F-en-v1.20.1 / ZRaw-v1.3

Okay somewhere I saw this and wrote it down, V1.19.21 / ZRAW-v1.3, looks like mine is a 19 instead of a 20? Would a check for upgrades fix that or do I need to do somethingelse?

Hi Melissa,

In SPE you can go to Help > Check for Updates and choose for the 64bit Windows version.

Shortway, this is the link :)

You can install the new version ontop of the old version.

Hope that this fix the problem for you!

Go to "Help">"Updates". Since you have a 64 bit OS, click on that one.

Thanks everyone :) I thought the 64bit was the version I was using...now it definitely is. Whatever was happening last night has not happened again and I was able to save the file I needed and I'm updated so I don't think I need to send a support ticket. Okay, off to post a new question!
