Free Painting Programme

Postby realsara » Fri Jun 27, 2014 11:19 am

Hi,

I dont have much time to post tonight, but just thought I would let you know that BitsDuJour have a paint programme called Twisted Brush at 100% off - so yes it is free.
The deal only lasts another 20 hours, I havent had a chance to look at it yet (have downloaded to have a play) but have read good things about it.

To download you do have to join (it's free) and I have got some good software for free over the last few months - here is the site - http://www.bitsdujour.com

Thanks
Sara

Thanks for the tip, Sara! I had never heard of the program before. On the website you posted I saw that there were two TwistedBrush deals, one for the older version 18 of TwistedBrush Pro Studio (for free) and one for the current version 20 at a 60% discount.

After trying out the current trial version for only 2 minutes, I ended up buying the current version at the discounted price.

This program has a lot of functions that I haven't even looked into, but it seems to be very intuitive. The drawing capabilities are so simple - I love the plant and tree brushes that let you draw artistic looking plants in seconds. I think the program will be really fun to explore.

Thanks Sara and eadams,

I, too, now have both. Thanks. There are so many being developed these days; Studio Artist still has my eye--I hold a question mark if I will like it, since you can't use a trial with your pictures. However, I've never seen an auto-painting program that will do so much, plus make "animations"--they call it something else. I think their program to be very modern and probably very useful, if you like to get into auto-painting, etc.

If you use filters for PS, maybe elements, Auto FX has several applications that are hard to beat for their variety.

Hi Sara and eadams and anyone interested in Studio Artist 4,

I spent several hours with the trial version of Studio Artist, and my conclusion for me is--it is not my cup of tea. I created at least 75 auto-paintings and I didn't like any of them. I was trying hard to get it to make me something I could be happy with, but not a one.....It's quite an elaborate program, but nothing comes out really pretty.

Give me at my stage of learning to paint something that is assisting me and let me add and subtract my lines, elements (additional vector art or composites) and I'll be happy.

I'm really glad several of us got our thoughts together and came up with some nice painting programs; thanks to the admin. for this free speech and moving forward in our artwork.

As a tad-bit for consideration, the Alien Skin Art 3 and 4 Photoshop filters are very worthy to consider for your painting interests. Also, the Art Painting filter in Photoshop itself. I definitely like putting different effects together in SPE and painting them in or out. Even Topaz filters are great. Finally, the artist who definitely uses a Wacom tablet is the one headed in the right direction for superior artwork...

I love Topaz Simplify, it's one of my favorite products, and I use it a lot. I really enjoy processing an image (flowers work great) with Simplify and then adding effects with SPE.

I just found a very interesting tutorial on how to create watercolor paintings using Dynamic Auto Painter and Photoshop (post-processing). I found the link in the forums for Dynamic Auto Painter (which I still haven't bought, but I'm sure I will now that I have seen this video). The basic techniques could be used with other programs, though. For example, SPE could be used for the post-editing part.

To sum it up, the artist did two renderings of the image in Dynamic Auto Painter with different settings, one to be used as an underlay and one where he painted in the details. Taking the two renderings as layers into Photoshop, he created a realistic masterpiece with quite a bit of manual post-processing. It took him about 11 minutes from start to finish.

From watching this video I learned that no matter how good the out-of-the-box rendering of an image with painting software looks to a non-artist like me, for a real artist it is just a starting point.
