Hydrangea before and after

Postby eadams » Tue Jul 08, 2014 9:01 am

Effects used in SPE: Intense and Enhance Greys (that brought out the detail in the flower petals).

I then combined the result twice in multiply mode with a rendering done with Topaz Simplify and did some masking. The original is much larger. I love the way you can easily resize an image when saving from SPE. I chose the setting Quarter Size in the Export settings for this image.

Hi again eadams,

You have indeed transformed the hydrangea and really pulled the subject out from the rest of the image - I've always liked white on dark backgrounds. There is a significant improvement in the detail but it has not been overdone.

I have a suggestion - not a criticism - why not try a very tight 'square' crop and perhaps frame it with a black border (with a little white border separating the image from the black border) - just an idea!

Cheers,

Andrew

Thank you for your suggestions, Andrew - they make for a huge improvement (despite the fact that the crop is probably not optimal).

Hi eadams,

I'm glad you tried my suggestion - it is just the same as before, but somehow the tighter crop and and the framing make for a more compelling image. Keep up the good work and for making interesting contributions - look forward to what you come up with in the future!

Cheers,

Andrew
