@ DBenterprises: The problem exists in Windows 7, too. Your use of the Fast Stone viewer is probably why you haven't experienced it. When I use Adobe Bridge to view my files, I also see correctly updated thumbnails. It is only when I view my files with Windows Explorer that I encounter the problem.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all so much for your investigations, it's a great help. It's possible I was wrong when I said that we don't store a thumbnail with the image, so we're investigating that. I'll let you know when we've got a fix to try out.

I am wondering if the is no some kind of GU(ID) stored in the jpg that Windows uses as a signature to find back the cached icon fast that is saved even when save to another jpg. Maybe meta data, and a GU(ID) referring to the original parent

We now think it might be a thumbnail stored in the exif data, but we're still unable to reproduce the problem. So, could someone post an original jpg file that when saved out of PP doesn't update the thumbnail? That would be a great help.

Cheers,

Tony

I am attaching the original Red flower shape file I used for my testing.

The problem only occurs with small and medium thumbnails. This is what I would do to reproduce the problem:
1. Save the file to a Windows system.
2. View the thumbnail in Windows Explorer. Change the view settings to Medium Thumbnail.
3. Open the file in SPE. Make clearly visible changes and save the file (SPE automatically adds _PE so the original file won't be overwritten).
4. Go to Windows Explorer and view the thumbnail of the saved file. It should look just like the original thumbnail without any changes.

If you can't reproduce the phenomenon, I would like to know what is different on your system that makes it so :)

That is exactly what happens on my machine, using FastStone and W7. It only happens with the medium icon, not the large or extra large as you stated. It does this in some other editing programs as well but not in others.

I can see the .jpg I uploaded on my Windows system, but not on my IPad. Did I do something wrong?

Hi,

I'm afraid I can't see the jpg, only a broken link symbol. Could you try uploading it again?

I am trying to upload the file again. This is strange, because I can see the image in my previous post in IE.
