Technique from Andrew's blog
I loved the technique described in Andrew's blog article "Transforming an Ordinary Photograph" http://www.smartphotoeditor.com/AndrewBuchanan/?p=143 and wanted to try it out on a photo of my own. After straightening the photo a bit, I followed the instructions exactly, but I selected a different vignette, since I didn't want a white vignette on this particular photo. The vignette chosen was "Old Postcard".
Before SPE:
And after SPE:
I wish I had found a more interesting source photo to work with, because I really like the effect.

Re: Technique from Andrew's blog
Hi eadams,
How lovely to see your 'before & after' images and hearing how you made the transformation. I am so glad that you have found that particular blog article useful. I love what you have done and I think it is wholly appropriate that you put your own 'stamp' on your creations. Your original was nice to view but your finished result after processing seems much more dramatic and compelling to look at. It has more character and has a hint of intrigue about it. I even get a feeling of 'wondering what has happened behind that window in the past'.
A great job with a very interesting result.
Look forward to more of your artwork in the future.
Cheers,
Andrew

Thank you, Andrew. I applied your technique (including the white vignette) to another image and the improvement was remarkable. Of course the basic masking technique can be used with any combination of effects, but I loved the ones you chose for your tutorial.
