Masking effect
Yesterday I watched the tutorial video regarding masking - below my first attempt of a picture I took this morning at a local event.

Re: Masking effect
Hi Fotoart,
Great work - Funky car & good composition - just one thing I think you might wish to consider, that is, removing the pole from the top of the car as it looks like a chimney!
If you permit me, I could use your image to create a little video showing users how to remove the pole using a Composite based TRICK - It is hard to use the Erase tool and not get blurring at the edge of the car top - my little trick works a treat! Your image is a great example for this tutorial video and it would be helpful to others. You would retain full copyright in your image and you as the creator would be acknowledged in the video. It would be a wonderful article for my blog:

None-the-less, a WONDERFUL first attempt - you should be very pleased with your result.
Have a great day!

Re: Masking effect
Thanks for the heads-up. This will help me to become a better Photographer as I often forget about small details. Your blog is fantastic as I found the masking article there first. As for the eraser, I have not found out how to get a square eraser. It would also be helpful to be able to select a threshold and/or a healing brush for being able to erase exactly where I want to.
I will keep adding more work I did if this is okay so that other can see what can be done with this software. I still need to learn a lot as I just started not too long ago with photography and image editing. Please use that image for your tutorial video - it would be great if you could put my 500px.com website (short url: http://goo.gl/BsOJQN - or - http://500px.com/fotoartista) so that I get more exposure there as well.
thanks again for your great work.

Hi Fotoart,
Thanks for your kindness and permission to use your image in a tutorial video - of course I am happy add your link as requested.
It will take a few days to get the video finished - hopefully, you will enjoy it and get a buzz from helping others as I do.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Re: Masking effect
I may have another image you want to use - I used the masking option and noticed that there are purple imperfection on one of the girls (in b/w).
How can we fix that?
Greetings - Jon - AKA Fotoart

Re: Masking effect
Hi Jon,
The solution SHOULD be easy
Make or use existing mask selecting either the girl in question or the rest of the image (use the Select Area feature - use either 'Subject' or 'Background') then apply a Black & White effect and use the mask to set it over the girl with the surf board only. The color imperfections should now be B&W, this will take away the purple leakage but it won't take away textural imperfections.
If this is not happening, I'm not sure what the problem is other than a poorly executed mask
See how you get on.
Cheers,
Andrew

Re: Masking effect
I just re-did the entire masking from scratch - was not a complex scenario, so was faster to re-do it than to play around ....

Re: Masking effect
Thanks, Andrew, to take your time to create this awesome video. I have yet to try it out when I have a minute. Great job!! It is like a plastic surgery - well done!
