Postby Burcham » Sun Jul 20, 2014 8:24 am

I did this picture about a year ago, but now I can't find the effect I used, anyone know the name of it?

Do you still have the original image? By experimenting with that it might be possible to discover what you used or at least get close. It's quite possible that you applied more than one effect. In that case it will be even more difficult. I have started to save every session (if I like the result I get) so that I can reproduce the effect later.

I still have the original, and save part of it as a session, however, all I really did was replace the background, select portrait, and the effect I chose was in at least the first 50 suggestions. I think it was called "red berries" or "berries and folage", or some thing like that. I had the effect saved in "MY Favorites". But sometime last year I had to reformat, and reload SPE. All my favorites and last used were gone. I have looked through ALLLLL the 480 or so pages and can't seem to find it again. Do some of the effects get removed? I really liked the background on this one. And so did the "Pretty Lady". :P

Hi Burcham, I didn't realize it was the background you were looking for. Yes, it is very pretty! I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember reading somewhere in this forum that backgrounds (like skies) don't show up when one browses the Effects Gallery without first having selected an area to replace. Have you tried using the Select Area functionality on a photo before browsing for the berry background? See tutorial here: http://photoeditor.anthropics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1662

I would look for it myself, but I can't get into Smart Photo Editor. After deleting all my Internet cookies, passwords, etc in my Internet browser, Smart Photo Editor won't start, and my activation token won't work. I have submitted a support request, but don't know how long it will take before the issue is resolved.

eadams, thanks for your reply. Yes I have used a small photo, and used replace background, tried select area, but cannot find this background. Maybe they took it off for some reason, or the sliders may have to be adjusted before the flowers and berries show up. As far as you not being able to get back to the program, I have had to do that also. You can go somewhere on this forum and get your license code, but I can't tell you where. Otherwise you will get fairly prompt help from filing your ticket. I think they are short handed on the weekends, but I filed one during a weekday and got help the same day. Good luck to you.

Hi Dave, you were right, my support ticket was handled right away and now I'm back into SPE. Unfortunately, I also couldn't find the pretty background (through I didn't scroll through all 400+ pages). If it hasn't been removed from the library, it is another example of how hard it is to find an effect in SPE. If the developers would add a better search functionality I would definitely buy an upgrade, even if nothing else in the program was changed.

Dave, I think I know the name of the effect you are looking for, but it has apparently been removed from the library. There is an effect listed at http://photoeditor.anthropics.com/effects/ called "pyracantha berries", but the effect is no longer in the Effects Gallery. The author was an anonymous user (one who didn't want their name published with the effect).

If you search the Internet for images of pyracantha berries you will find many that would be just as suitable for compositing in SPE as the one in the lost effect. You do need to avoid copyright infringement, so if you find an image you like, make sure the photographer allows its usage in the kind of project you are using it for.

I thought these were pyracantha berries but they looked so huge in relation to the subject. Scaling issue I guess. You could always go shoot some of your own if you live where they grow. :D

Hi eadams,

I'm glad that you got into looking for the effect that Burcham used and now can't find. After reading your last post, I put the name "pyracantha berries" in Google for a search and page after page came up. Beautiful. I love flowers, have taken hundreds of pictures of flowers around the world, and just do it for their beauty. But these berries are striking, and ones that I now would like my wife to grow in our yard, and I thank you for that.

That was good "detective" work, and one of the reasons it's so enjoyable to be with SPE and have people like you learning and helping others.
