New 'Random Textures' Effects NOW LIVE

Postby andrewb2012 » Mon Sep 01, 2014 3:11 pm

Hi Folks,

These effects have been in the pipeline for a while but I am glad to say that they are now LIVE.

I've created a PDF document to give you a feel for each effect of which there are 54. The title under each effect is the actual name of the effect and you can use it in the Effects Gallery Search Box to initiate it. Alternatively you can use the series name, that is, 'Random textures' and the whole series should be revealed.

Please feel free to download the 3 page PDF document here:

Series Title 'Random textures' 001-054

Hope you find this approach and the effects useful.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Will these work as backdrops?

Hi DennB,

Of course you can! Simply extract the texture and use as a background. If a particular effect appeals to you, then simply apply it as an effect and do a manual edit and open up the merge node and reset to a 'Normal' merge type, likewise click on the 'Reset' button of the 'Hue, Saturation & Brightness' node to complete. You should now have the texture shown that I created and can therefore save it for background purposes. It may also appear as a background choice when using the 'Montage' feature, but I have not checked this out. Some effects are much more complicated than this simple type and extraction of a texture becomes more difficult, but it is easy in this instance.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

Thank you for these lovely textures, Andrew!

DennB asked: Will these work as backdrops?

Good question! Being too lazy to learn the "correct" way to use the textures as backdrops (using area selection?), I have been using my own method of applying the texture to a file consisting of only 50% gray. Then, as long as the merge node is an overlay merge the output will be the texture itself. Then I load the actual image I want to put in front of the backdrop by using FILE - ADD OVERLAY and mask out the part where the backdrop should show through.

EDIT: Thank you Andrew for your explanation!

Thanks for your comments Eve. Very nice FUNKY image produced by extracting the texture and using as a background. Your way of isolating a texture to use as a background seems good to me - you can do this via the Montage feature by setting the base color to approx 50% gray then applying a given effect. Since I create so many textures myself, I rarely try to extract textures from an effect - I simply use one of my own textures from my texture bank.

Andrew, I downloaded the PDF and it is a very useful aid to selecting a texture! Thanks for going to the trouble!

Eve
