Hi GrahamS,
When searching through the gallery for effects you might want to apply to your image, you can use the shortlist to compile a list of potential effects that you have liked as you've been browsing. You can then select from your shortlist once you've re-reviewed them.
The favourites feature is more long-lasting since it allows you to store your favourite effects permanently. :-)
