Hi William,

It's great to see a good submission from a new member.

I tend to be an architectural rather than an artistic photographer. I prefer landscape pictures to be really sharp, or subjected to HDR treatment.
I'd crop the picture to bring more focus to the subject, and I'd use local contrast and sharpness to bring it out.

As always, it's all about personal taste. Selfishly, I'd love to see your picture reworked.

Let's see some more of your work!!

Cheers,
Angus

P.S. My brother has lived in Scarborough, Ont. for almost 50 years.

I find that SPE can be used either for straightforward photo enhancement in which case you end up with something that may very well have come straight out the camera. Alternatively you make a conscious decision to create a piece or art and once you go in that direction opinions will vary as to whether it's 'good' or not. Just like any piece of art. For my money, when I articize (new word - I just invented it!) a landscape I go for the dreamy, ethereal look. And that's why I like this picture. Initially though I just could not figure out how such a cabin could possible be the first house in Scarborough, Yorkshire!

Lovely and soft enhancement! Thats what I love about SPE, it's just so versatile in approaching editing your photos, artistically (love your new word Richard 'articize'!) or keep it realistic, it's all up to you, I prefer both ;)

Hi William,

I agree with Richard about 'dreamy/ethereal' images - they certainly have their place and can be quite uplifting to view. You have processed your photograph and successfully captured these feelings. Only one thing distracts from the image and that is the highlights on the cottage door and surrounding area including the steam of light at the base of the large tree. Personally, I would have liked a little more detail in these parts as I think your original must have had some unintentional 'blow-out'. If that was not the case and you have processed the image to achieve the specific result shown, then that is fair enough and it is your use of artistic license. Anyway, a lovely image that I really appreciate. Well done!

Andrew

Andrew......thank you for your comments.....when I first worked on the photo my idea was to have the cabin in a spot light effect........however i think your idea of taking some of the heat out would have been better.........Thank you
Have a great week.
